Hi, friend! This is a message for you - yes, you, the one reading this right now! I want to tell you something.

I know you're feeling down. Everything feels wrong and it doesn't seem like it's ever going to get any better. You wonder if it's your fault; maybe you're just a magnet for bad luck. You look at yourself and think, "I'm useless. All I do is mess up and drag down the people who try to help me. The world would be better off without me. No one would even miss me - my friends would be sad at first, but they'd eventually forget about me and be happier with me gone." I feel you, I really do, but I want to tell you that these things you're thinking simply aren't true.

...You don't believe me. And why should you, right? I'm just another stranger on the internet about to tell you all the things you tell your friends when they feel down: that you matter, that people will miss you, that everything will eventually get better. You mean it when you say it to your friends: you love them and desperately wish they could see what you see in them. When you tell yourself this stuff, however, it sounds hollow. You know you're garbage, no matter what anyone tells you; they're probably only saying nice things out of obligation, anyway.

Even if you won't listen, I'm going to say it anyway: you matter. I can't convey through words on a screen how important you are and what a difference you make in people's lives. People might mock you or bully you, but they don't define you. With people like that, the problem is with them, not you. I won't lie and say they'll eventually grow up or knock it off because the fact of the matter is that sometimes they don't; however, I will guarantee you that you won't have to be around these people forever. You'll move on to better things and better places, and only those who really love and accept you will be left in your life. These are the people you should listen to: when they say you matter, listen to them. When they say they love you, listen. When they let you know how much of an impact you have on their lives, listen. Love yourself as your friends love you.

Still not convinced? Still think you don't make a difference? Alright, then, consider this: how many times do you see someone and think, "Wow, they're so talented" or "I love to seem them smile" or " I wish I knew them better" or anything of that sort and not say anything? How many times do you find yourself thinking and worrying and caring about people and not tell them? I'm willing to bet pretty often, and you're not alone in that. Someone could be thinking the same way about you, even someone you don't know very well. I mean, I writing you this letter, after all. I'm doing this because, even if I don't know you too well, I care about you.

There is always someone that cares about you.

You matter.

Don't ever let yourself believe otherwise.
